 Ixcateopan de Cuauhtemoc Celebration of the Holy Child of Atocha
Festivities in honor of the patron saint of this region, with processions and dancing, cuisine
from the region and animal rides.

Jan 01-03  Florencia Villareal / Cruz Grande Fair of the Virgin of Canet
The 60th anniversary of this traditional celebration in honor of the Virgin of Canet, which was
brought to Mexico from Italy. There is a  fiesta in the streets, a highlight of which is the "dance
of the conquest."

Jan 04-11 Cruz Grande  Fair of the Lady of Caminito
Processions and dances portraying the Moors and the tale of Charlemagne with his “Twelve
Peers of France” happen in this week-long festival along the coast road east of Acapulco

Jan 15   Pungarabato / City Altamirano Feast of Christ of Esquipulas
In these lowlands, a black Christ is worshipped, with processions in the atrium of the church
and various traditional dances, like “the Moors” and the “Tecuanes.”

Jan 17   Taxco  Day of San Antonio Abad
Known as “The Blessing of the Animals,” this unusual Catholic observance allows animals
of all descriptions, sometimes dressed in their best,   to enter the church and receive its
good graces.

Jan 28-30  Tlapa de Comonfort  1st Mountain Festival
This is a new cultural event that aims to give exposure to local art and traditional culture,
showing off brass bands, folkloric ballets,   native-language choirs, costumes on parade,
crafts and gourmet food representing every corner of the mountain.

Jan 30- Feb 05  Hacienda de Cabanas  Celebrations at San Felipe de Jesus
Celebrating the patron saint of this town, the fair starts on January 30 with rodeo, “palenque,”
fireworks and folk dancing culminating   February 5th.

Feb 1-15  Apaxtla de Castrejon  Fiesta of the Virgen de la Candelaria
Dances, processions and fireworks.

Feb 1-12  Eduardo Neri / Zumpanga del Rio  Fiesta of the Virgen de la Candelaria

Feb 01-28  Ixcateopan of Cuahtemoc  Celebration of the birthday of Emperor Cuauhtemoc
The most important days of this month-long event are the 22nd and 23rd, when large
numbers of dancers from across the country meet to celebrate the birth of the Aztec
emperor.   

Feb 02   Zitlala Mardi Gras and Feast of San Nicolas
In the dances of the Xochimilcas, groups of men dressed as women punish themselves by
way of penance, praying for good harvest season.

Feb 02  Juliantla / Taxco Dia de la Candelaria

Feb 09-13 Ixtapa / Zihuatenejo Carnival  

Feb 10-16 Mezcala  (dates may change) Carnival  
Boys in this town carry a large rag doll and dance with it in a joyous celebration.

Feb 11   Florencia Villareal / Cruz Grande Celebration of the Virgin Mary of Lourdes  

Feb 12-28  Iguala  Feria de la Bandera
Part of the Bicentennial celebrations, this is the 57th edition of the Feria, which has craft
exhibitions, gastronomic treats, people's   theater, circus performances and many other
attractions.

Feb 14-21  Zihuatenejo Art Festival

Feb 14-23  Tepecuacuilco of Trujano  Carnival

Feb 15-17  Taxco  Carnaval de Ojeda

Dances and events.

4th Fri of Lent  Alpoyeca
Dances throughout the town portraying devils, “tecuanes,” and the tale of Charlemagne with
his “Twelve Peers of France.”

Mar 06       Zumpanga del Rio Local fiesta featuring traditional dances lasts through the night
and into the following day.

Mar 14-21  Benito Juarez / San Jeronimo Festival of San Jeronimo
Feast of this town’s patron saint and a celebration of the birthday of Benito Juarez.

An impressive performance of the Passion, supplemented by both popular and liturgical
celebrations.

April 1-3  Taxco Easter Festivities
One of the most spectacular processions in the country, Holy Thursday’s Easter Week
parade involves hundreds of costumed penitents and “encruzados,” or cross-carriers on a
slow march to the chapel of Santa Veracruz in the evening.  On Resurrection Sunday, there is
another massive parade through the streets of the city. Throughout the week there is a food
and crafts fair.

Apr 5-15  Coyuca de Benitez Palmera Fair
Involving sporting events, musical, cultural as well as craft shows, livestock and gastronomy,
this local fair also has a parade of floats    and crowning of the Queen.

Apr 20-30  Buenavista de Cuellar Buenavista Expo Fair
The anniversary of the historical “Defense of the Zapatistos,” celebrated with rodeos, folk
shows, mechanical games, and a commercial and    crafts fair.

Apr 25    San Marcos Festivities in honor of San Marcos

April 25   Huamuxtitlán Prayer for Rain Ritual
Rain is honored here as part of the celebrations of San Marcos.  For the locals, lightning
announces the arrival of rain, the rainbow means a longer wait!
